Is anyone up for a game of Rounders?
Updated: 5 days ago

Saturday 18th July, I posted a spur-of-the-moment TikTok at 11pm asking if anyone would be up for a game of Rounders. I went to bed expecting a general response with some slight interest, to waking up with over 1,000 likes and over 30 sign-ups. Over the course of the weekend, we gathered 50 sign-ups and almost 3,000 likes. On the 21st July, we held the event.
Hosting a Rounders Game for Total Strangers
Back in July, we hosted a last-minute game of rounders down the Low Green in Ayr. Inviting total strangers to join in on the fun. The idea of gathering 35 individuals, each with their own backgrounds and stories, was both exciting and a little daunting. However, it quickly became apparent that the event was about much more than just a game; it was a celebration of community and connection.
The Power of Community
As we set up the field and organised teams, I witnessed something so refreshing...
People who had never met before were exchanging smiles, sharing stories, and forming bonds over the anticipation of friendly competition. The atmosphere was filled with energy and enthusiasm, reminding us of the incredible power of community. In a world that often feels divided, seeing so many strangers come together for a common purpose was an exhilrating experience. I was reminded that regardless of our differences, we can unite through shared interests and social activities.
A simple game of rounders became a catalyst for connection, allowing participants to engage with one another in a meaningful way.
Refreshing Outdoor Fun
One of the most invigorating aspects of the day was the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. In a world where digital interactions and social media supremacy, playing rounders allowed us to embrace the joy of physical activity and the outdoors.

The laughter, cheers, and friendly banter created a joyous atmosphere that transcended the game itself. What made this gathering even more special was that it was all done without the influence of alcohol. Participants were fully present, engaged, and focused on the game and each other. The absence of alcohol fostered a sense of clarity and genuine interaction, allowing everyone to connect on a deeper level.
Final Thoughts
Hosting a rounders game for strangers turned out to be a beautiful reminder of the strength and warmth of community. It was a day filled with laughter, competition and newfound friendships. This experience not only highlighted the joy of coming together but also reinforced the idea that we can create meaningful connections through simple, shared activities.
I am so grateful to every single person that came along. Thank you for embracing the chaos, bringing your best energy and competitive spirit. I hope to host more events like this in the future.
